This semester, I worked on a photo story with the East Oakland Boxing Association(EOBA), a program that provides boxing lessons and after school care to under-served children in one of the most violent parts of the bay area. The boxing lessons help teach students about self discipline and give them a way to protect themselves. EOBA also provides tutoring, cooking classes and a safe place to play for students who don’t box.

I just started working on my photo story and I’m working with the East Oakland Boxing Association, which is a community outreach program that serves at-risk youth in Oakland. I’m a huge boxing fan and this kid was wonderful, very soft spoken, sweet and he had a bit of a stutter, which I empathized with because I grew up with a speech impediment. I’m really happy to be working with them.

I finally finished editing her photos! I’m happy with the results.
